Malta Experience the sun blessed jewel of the Mediterranean

Malta is an island that is renowned for it's character and the crystal clear waters offer many coves and beaches that are ideal for sunbathing, swimming and all those various kinds of water sports. The Maltese drive on the left, have red pillar boxes and even their money is in pounds, although it is Maltese. For a trip back in time you will be able to explore the island by car or by hopping aboard one of the old English single decker buses that represent great value.  Malta is where the old mixes with the new very easily and you will find there is plenty to do during your stay so that you can fully appreciate what Malta has to offer.

There are endless number of restaurants, cafes, bars and bistros all serving a variety of local or worldwide foods and all are reasonably priced. You can join the locals in one of their village bistros or bars or dine Al la Carte in any of the numerous quality eating places throughout the island.

As you would imagine, seafood is fresh daily so there is plenty of choice from a variety of catches that will tempt you.  All your shopping needs are well catered for with fashionable shopping centres and malls, local shops and markets that are all interesting and varied. Night life can be calm and peaceful or if you prefer more variety and life there are many nightclubs and bars along with sophisticated casinos.

History

The wealth of history in Malta is well known as is the visitors opportunity to experience the hundreds of beautiful churches on the island, one for every day of the year it is said. You could explore the prehistoric villages, the Christian catacombs or visit the wonderful silent city of Mdina, a truly remarkable experience. In the capital Valletta there are the famous ramparts of this walled city to wonder at, the ever popular local market and much much more.

Places to visit

For the sporty types there is an 18 hole golf course at Marsa Sports Club, a wide range of water sports, horse racing in the form of trotting, tennis, squash, ten pin bowling, ice skating, jeep safaris or you could even try your hand at the local pastime, Bocci ( a form of French Bowls). You can swim with Dolphins at Malta's waterpark.

To appreciate Malta from the sea you can enjoy one of the many trips around the harbours or the island on the famous Captain Morgan cruise liners, where you can stop off at Comino and the stunning Blue Lagoon for some lunch and sun bathing or swimming. A nice alternative to just being on the island all day and one that is worthwhile considering for those who want to get out and about.

Another short trip that is worth taking is on one of the ferries across to Malta's smaller sister island, Gozo. The ferry departs from the north of the island at Cirkewwa, near to Mellieha, and the 25 minute crossing provides you with the opportunity of visiting Gozo and the contrast that this unique

Gozo is a lovely island that is almost half the size of Malta and has charm in abundance. A totally relaxing and a much more tranquil destination than Malta. Gozo is more fertile and green than Malta and the local Gozitans are friendly with a very easy going lifestyle that is very easy to adapt to whilst you unwind are on holiday.

 The island is not as well known as it's larger sister Island of Malta with unspoilt with rustic beauty and the most breathtaking scenery . The main sandy beach on Gozo is known as Ramla, the red beach, and this offers excellent bathing with a sizable beach area that never seems to be crowded. here are secluded bays and coves such as San Blas shown above  to be explored, whilst all the waters around the island offering a richness in clarity for those interested in diving or simply bathing.

There are a good choice and range of excellent local cafes, bistros and restaurants that offer the very best in fresh food, local and international cuisine to suit all tastes. In the two main coastal resorts of Xlendi and Marsalforn you will be able to dine at the waters edge with an assured quality of food and value for money. These two resorts whilst being on opposite coasts are only a short drive away from each other, such is the size of Gozo, which allows for the ease of being able to get around the island. n the capital, Victoria, you could explore the ancient and splendid Norman Citadel whilst within a few minutes walk is the village centre, shops and market square.
